Kevin Murphy is a Nonprofit Leader & Entrepreneur born and raised in District 9.

He graduated from Maine West High School and then attended Illinois State University where he graduated in 2015.

After his business career brought him to Charlotte, NC, he came back to Des Plaines in 2020 during the pandemic. While in Downtown Des Plaines, he noticed a group of homeless individuals without coats and raised 25 coats for the regulars at the Des Plaines Metra station, as the pantry was unable to run a coat drive due to hygiene concerns. This began a coat drive which would inevitable lead to 1,100 coats that winter for the O’Hare community.

Through the success of these efforts, he started a nonprofit Snow Removal & Lawn Care business that serves hundreds of senior, disabled, and low income neighbors in Des Plaines, Niles, Park Ridge, Rosemont, and Mt. Prospect.

He’s also led campaigns that have stimulated tens of thousands of dollars for struggling Des Plaines businesses during the COVID19 shutdowns, raised over 5,000 coats for Des Plaines residents, and decorated dozens of homes for underserved families each holiday season.

He is an active voice in Northwest side politics, providing counsel and advice to Mayors and Elected Officials across the communities his nonprofit operates within. He actively partners with The Des Plaines Food Pantry, The Frisbie Senior Center, Maine Township, and other community-based organizations to support the area’s most vulnerable residents.

Most importantly, he is a committed partner, loving uncle, and loyal friend who leads with humility, grit, humor, courage, and creativity to meet the times we find ourselves in. These are traits he feels are representative of the people who raised him in this district.

It is critical in these trying times that our politicians lead from the front. Kevin Murphy always has.
